Fulfilling her promise made in the State Assembly, Chief Minister J
Jayalalithaa on Wednesday inaugurated the State Resource Centre for
Inclusive Education, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, at
Santhome at a cost of Rs 46.42 lakh. The centre, set up through the
Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, would be a boon to differently-abled children as
they can get information regarding treatments available for curing the
various disabilities, equipment, financial assistance, etc.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the centre from the Secretariat through video-conferencing.
The centre has facilities for physiotherapy, speech therapy, vision stimulation, communicative devices for differently-abled children, assessment section for assessing the nature of disability, a training centre for differently-abled children and teachers, a library with special books and information centres of national institutions working for the welfare of the differently-abled.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the additional infrastructure facilities in 91 high schools and higher secondary schools and new buildings for 11 high schools, six model schools, two primary education offices and two government teachers training institutes and two district libraries constructed at a cost of `117.77 crore.
