The Ministry of Social Affairs has blamed parties in the public and private sectors for the lack of services and facilities for the disabled, accusing them of ignoring instructions and procedures to ensure better roads and public places for this category. Yet Undersecretary for Social Welfare Dr. Abdullah Yousuf said the ministry has fulfilled its role for this category of the population.
He said his ministry follows up on the needs of the physically challenged, especially when it comes to roads and public places. Yousuf said the ministry is displeased by the fact that roads and public places such as gardens, parks and markets, in addition to public and private sector building, as well as public toilets, have not been probably equipped to serve the needs of the handicapped.
He pointed out that there exists a coordinating committee to serve the needs of this category in society inside the ministry and is presided over by the deputy undersecretary for social affairs and includes other public sector parties.
He said the ministry and committee is following up on this by conducting a detailed study in cooperation with other parties to ensure that more work can be carried out for this sector of society.
