Computer software tool for differently abled kids launched : Chennai

Tamil Nadu governor K Rosaiah on Thursday released a DVD containing a new computer-aided guide for differently-abled children at a function in Raj Bhavan, Chennai.

The VCD contains learning material for autistic children and differently endowed children, prepared by Trichy Bharathidasan University vice-chancellor K Meena. The first part has five modules imparting skills of reading, listening, communication, writing and motivation. The second part deals with scrap mathematics, basic mathematics and advance mathematics.

Rosaiah handed over the first copy of the VCD to Saraswathi Palani, trustee of Bright School for Autism, Mogappair. Rosaiah said, "Approximately 2% of the total Indian population suffer from differently-abled and a sizeable section of them are in rural areas. They need technology based assistance to enter mainstream."

K Meena had earlier developed computer-aided tools soft voice and soft touch for mentally retarded children and people with mathematical dyscalculia and residual vision.
