Property security for senior citizens , PwDD's , Widows : Porvorium

An amendment bill was introduced in the assembly on Thursday with an aim to protect the property rights of senior citizens, widows and physically-challenged persons.

By modifying Section 23 A of the of Goa, Daman and Diu Buildings (Lease, Rent and Eviction) Control Act 1968 it is sought to enable such persons to recover possession of their premises.

Deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza introduced the bill in the house seeking to revise certain sections of the main act.

The amendment bill clarified that such persons shall not transfer through sale or any other means or let out premises before the expiry of a period of three years from the date of taking possession of the premises.

If the transfer or sale is affected within three years, the evicted tenant may be entitled to apply to the controller for an order that he or she may be given back possession of the premises.
