Anyone having an
interaction with this man is amazed to see how he has overcome his
disability to prove that he is equally competent as those with normal
abilities.
Despite being blind, 46-year-old Yagnesh Modi can be seen putting a smile on physiotherapy patients in Bharuch civil hospital. Besides earning his livelihood, he is providing inspiration to the others with various disabilities.
"I always tell my fellow disabled persons to be courageous to be successful," said Modi
Overcoming the hurdles that came in his life, Modi trained himself not only in physiotherapy, motor winding, general mechanics, acupressure techniques, music and also as a receptionist.
He lives with his mother and a blind sister. His father was also blind.
Modi had only five per cent vision at the age of five which too became nil by the time he was 17. Inspired by his father who did several odd jobs to overcome his disability, Modi passed pursued a course in physiotherapy from a school for the blind in Ahmedabad. Thereafter he pursued several other courses also.
He started working as a physiotherapist at Palanpur civil hospital in 1990 and later shifted to Bharuch.
He is also popular for identifying disorders amongst people by feeling their pulse.
He got due recognition in February when he awarded by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee at a function in New Delhi. He has also won awards at state and local levels. He has been a sportsman who has climbed Pavagadh hill several times. He also delivers talks on radio and television.
"I love to learn. Spiritual power helps me to sense things and I work like any normal person. I am satisfied with my life and want to serve other people. I want to provide relief to the patients suffering from painful diseases," he said.
