Migratory pulse polio campaign begins : Punjab

The district health authorities kicked-off a three-day special migratory pulse polio campaign here on Sunday. Dr RL Bassan, civil surgeon, said India was declared a polio-free country two years ago.

The department administered polio drops to children in the age group of 0 to
5 years belonging to migratory labourers.


Dr Harpreet Mann, district vaccination officer, supervised the campaign in Basti Gujaan, Basti Danishmandi, Indra Colony, Nurpur and Industrial Area.

The civil surgeon said 1,181 teams had been constituted to administer the drops, besides 131 mobile and transit teams. He said the teams would visit all brick-kilns, labour colonies, factories, huts, slum areas and all those places where migratory labourers live in the next two days.

Dr Mann said they had set a target of 1,36,254, including 41,661 children living in urban areas. As many as 11,738 children living in villages were administered polio drops.

He appealed to the parents to get their children up to the age of five years vaccinated in the next two days.
