One held for raping physically challenged woman

One person has been arrested for allegedly raping a 40-year-old physically challenged woman here, police said today.

The 45-year-old accused had entered her house on June 4 and allegedly raped her, police said.

Following a complaint last evening, the man was arrested. He has been remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the central prison at Salem, they added.

Differently-abled girl raped, killed in Odisha

A 14-year-old deaf and blind girl was raped and murdered at Beladal village under Puri Sadar police station on Wednesday night. Her body was found in a cashewnut orchard along the Puri-Konark Marine Drive on Thursday morning.

According to the victim’s father Guna Patra, his family members were all sleeping inside their thatched house when around midnight, he woke up to some strange noise and barking of dogs. He then found door of the house open and his daughter missing. Though the family searched for the girl, they could not trace her till her body was found in the orchard at 10 am on Thursday.

As soon as the news spread, angry villagers staged a road blockade along with the body of the girl on the Puri-Konark Marine Drive demanding immediate arrest of the accused. They also sought adequate compensation for the family of the deceased. Till the report was filed, the villagers had not handed over the body to police for post mortem.

Debashish Rath of Childline, a voluntary  organisation working on children related issues, said the girl had become blind due to a growing tumour in her brain. “Since her parents are very poor, we had admitted her in a super-speciality hospital where her tumour was removed recently and she was recovering,” he said.

Inspector of Sadar police station Susil Kumar Mishra said involvement of more than two persons in the case is suspected. Forensic experts have been pressed into investigation. SP Anup Kumar Sahoo also visited the spot from where the body was recovered and assured that the accused will be arrested soon.

Four months back, a four-year-old girl was also raped near Baliguali village under similar circumstances.

Minor blind girl ‘raped’ : Ahemedabad

A minor blind girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Odhav area of Ahmedabad on Sunday. The accused identified as Manish Parmar (25) was arrested early on Wednesday after the victim's sister filed a FIR with the police. 

According to the Odhav Police the incident happened when the girl was asleep on the terrace of her house on Sunday night. The accused is believed to have visited the victim's house often.

Inspector V D Brahmbhatt of Odhav police station said, "Parmar first came to talk to her on her terrace after which he gagged her and took her to his terrace where he raped her. We took the victim's statement after her medical examination. Parmar was held after he confessed. Based on this and the victim's statement and identification, we arrested him".

The victim did not inform her family as the accused had threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The incident reportedly came to the notice of the victim's elder sister when she complained of a health problem.

The police have registered a case of rape under Section 376 and 506 (2) for criminal intimidation of the Indian Penal Code. Minor blind girl 'raped'

Neighbour rapes blind girl in Gujarat

A 15-year-old blind girl who stays in Odhav was raped by a youth who stays near her house. The youth, Manish Parmar, was arrested on Wednesday by Odhav police.

The rape victim was admitted by her parents to a boarding school for blind children at Surendranagar. The girl, who studies in class XI, had been staying at her residence in Odhav along with her parents for the past one month as her school is closed due to summer vacation," said Odhav police.

On Monday, the alleged rape happened when she was asleep with her sister on the terrace of her house. "The girl was sleeping on the terrace of her row house in Odhav.

The accused jumped across from the adjoining row house terrace and attacked the girl.

According to the victim, Parmar had overpowered the girl, stopped her from shouting by clamping his hand on her mouth and then physically dragged her across to the adjoining terrace where he then went on to rape her," said an Odhav police official.

The girl later woke her sister up and told her about the sexual assault and together they informed their parents.

The matter later reached Odhav police station and the girl's sister registered a complaint and based on this, Parmar was arrested.

"Parmar is a daily wage labourer. He knew the victim since her childhood," added the police official.

Blind teen raped, killed in Puri

The murder of a minor blind girl after she was allegedly raped on Thursday triggered widespread protests in Odisha’s Puri district, with people blocking the busy road from Puri to Konark, demanding strong action against the culprits.

“There have been allegations of rape before murder. Things will be clear after we obtain the post mortem report,” Puri superintendent of police Anup Sahu said.

No arrest has been made so far.

The 13-year-old girl, a class 5 student in a blind school in Bhubaneswar, had gone to her village, about 65 km east of the state capital, for her summer vacation. The girl’s father alleged that some people kidnapped her after midnight from the courtyard of their house where she was sleeping with her mother and grandmother.

Family members and neighbours discovered her absence after two hours and started a frantic search for her. They found her body without clothes in the morning in a bush on the outskirts of the village.
