A
train went back one and a half kilometer in the reverse direction in
Madhya Pradesh to rescue a handicapped passenger who accidently fell off
the train.
It happened on Tuesday when the Godan Express had crossed Sohagpur station in Hoshangabad district. Rahul Paswan, physically handicapped, was standing near the door when he lost control and fell off the moving train.
Paswan, according to his friend Nishant, was travelling from Mhow in Indore district to Mumbai where he worked. Without losing time the friend pulled the emergency chain and the train halted.
Guard SK Verma traced the chain puling to the special coach reserved for handicapped where Nishant told him the mishap. Verma took the unusual decision to consult with the driver about reversing the train back to the spot where Paswan fell. The driver agreed and the train moved in the reverse direction for approximately 1.5 km till they came across an injured Paswan lying on the track.
On reaching Itarsi, Verma contacted RPF and GRP personnel and told them of the accident. By this time senior officials had also reached the station. Godan Express moved forward on after Paswan was left in their charge. He was later taken to the hospital where his condition is said to be out of danger.
