Delhi airport haunts differently abled as he was asked to strip for security check

Even two months after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security promised to make the airports more friendly for the differently-abled persons, commuters are still facing the humiliations in the name of security check.

A passenger with a prosthetic leg recounts his humiliation when he was forced to strip for security check.

Rajesh Bhatia, an auditing professional who travels extensively for work, was made to strip from below his waist on October 8 at Delhi's IGI Airport. The bitter experience left him shaken and humiliated, according to CNN-IBN.

He is an above knee amputee who lost his right leg in a road accident more than 20 years ago. Rajesh was made to sit inside the CISF checking room where he listened security personnel discuss how to scan his prosthetic limb.

This comes barely months after a woman was asked to remove her prosthetic leg at an airport.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security had met members of various disability rights groups in August this year where they received their recommendations and promised to bring about a positive change. However, it seems nothing has changed so far as standard operating procedure for the differently-abled persons is still not being followed and passengers end up being humiliated at the hands of security personnel.
