The court is hailed as a temple of justice. But, a differently abled advocate had his wheelchair stolen right inside the Madras high court complex. Worse still, even after his complaint three weeks back, neither the police nor the court staff have been able to help him find it.

“This
is one of the most distressing events in my life”, advocate P.
Ramarajan told DC. He now pedals his tri-cycle daily to the family
court, where he practices, and the police station in the high court
complex for checking out on his complaint.
The young lawyer would arrive at the court in his tri-cycle from his house at Triplicane and use a wheelchair parked under the court staircase for moving inside, between one court hall and another.
On October 1, he had gone to the court to present a client’s case in the family court but he found his wheelchair missing from its usual place. “I somehow managed to reach the court hall and after finishing the case, went around asking everybody, including the court staff, about my wheelchair. It was gone”, Ramarajan said.
He had procured the specially-designed wheelchair from Delhi only recently spending Rs 20,000.
The
police would not even register a FIR. “A senior police officer told me
to get a new wheelchair instead of worrying about the lost one. I have
appealed to the court registrar”, said the lawyer.
Esplanade Inspector Rajesh said his men had checked with the court staff but got no information. “We will wait for three months and issue a certificate that it’s non-traceable”.
