‘Differently abled continues to be neglected’ : HOSUR

Law enacted by the Union Government in 1995 for the welfare of the differently abled is not being implemented properly, said S. Namburajan, state secretary, Tamilnadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers here on Thursday.



Inaugurating the district conference of the association at the Andhra Samithi in Hosur, Mr. Namburajan said that there were over 60 lakh differently abled in the country. Of this, only one-third were given national identity card.


Implementation of welfare schemes including disbursal of monthly assistance to the differently abled were worse in rural areas.


Intervention of the association yielded good results. The decoded system of broadcasting of news in TV channels was introduced after the association wrote to the Union Government, he said.


Resolutions passed at the conference included providing government job for two sports persons among the differently abled in the district, special camps to give identity cards, giving priority in employment registration. N. Shyamala, district president of the association presided. C. Murugesan read out the annual report.


K. Suresh Babu, president, Deaf and Dumb Trust, and A. Sivaprakash, Appolo Computer Education Private Limited offered felicitations.


K.R. Chakaravarthy, state vice-president gave valedictory address. R. Sahadevan proposed a vote of thanks.
