Differently abled swimmers to get special training ahead of paralympics : DINDIGUL ( Tamil Nadu )

For the first time in the State, 44 differently-abled swimmers including 19 women, representing the Tamil Nadu team, have got an opportunity to get an advanced coaching and special physiotherapy training in the three-week residential coaching camp commencing at the district sports complex swimming pool here on Monday.


They will upgrade their swimming skills and improve their physique through physiotherapy training session.

Inaugurating the coaching camp, Collector N. Venkatachalam said that these differently abled swimmers from 17 districts will represent the State at 13th national paralympic swimming championship to be held in Bangalore from November 10 to 12, first of kind in the country for paralympic swimmers, he added. Swimming Coach M. Vijayakumar said that participants will undergo four-hour swimming training and four-hour fitness test including physiotherapy and two-hours of theory classes every day.


Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority will impart the training and ‘Puthu Vazhu’ Project Office will foot the bill for their stay, food and transport expenses to Bangalore and back and to attend the residential camps for swimmers and their assistants. “The 10-member Tamil Nadu team had won 32 medals in the previous competitions. We had given weekend training to them. Now, we will impart a three week residential training to all participants,” said Coach M. Vijayakumar. District Sports Officer S.J. Briton said all arrangements had been made at the district sports complex for them.
