It was celebration time for the hearing impaired in the city on the occasion of International Day of Deaf.
The Deaf Enabled Foundation (DEF) organised ‘A Friendship Evening’, wherein various cultural activities were organised for the hearing impaired children at Loyola College recently.

The Deaf Enabled Foundation (DEF) organised ‘A Friendship Evening’, wherein various cultural activities were organised for the hearing impaired children at Loyola College recently.
It proved to be an event that brought out the latent talent in them, proving that disability is not a hindrance for them.
Students from various educational institutions (deaf schools) showcased their special skills and abilities.
Speaking on the occasion, T K M Sandeep, CEO of Deaf Enabled Foundation, called for increased awareness about the educational tools available for the deaf. He laid emphasis on development of Bilingual Education, a technology pertaining to the deaf and sign language communications.
Achievers, both students and teachers, were feted on the occasion. P K Jaison, J Srimathi and C Swaminathan received the Achiever’s Awards for excellence in the fields of sports, job performance and welfare respectively.
The Helen Keller Students’ awards and Annie Sullivan’s teachers awards were also given away.
Those who graced the occasion included Kandaswamy Bharathan, executive director of Kavithalayaa Productions, V S Ramana, head and general manager of L&T Constructions, Kul Bhushan Jain, zonal manager of Bank of India, Raj K Kularay, deputy zonal manager of Bank of India, K Dayanidhi, chief manager of State Bank of India, Chennai.
The International Day of the Deaf is commemorated on the last week of September every year with the aim of drawing both public’ and concerned authority’s attention to the concerns of the deaf community.
