The government is set to eradicate polio
from the country but an alleged case of denial of polio vaccine to a
four-month child by a paramedical staff was witnessed this time in the
city on Saturday.
The polio drops will be given to children under pulse polio immunization programme in the district on Sunday.
But, it is unfortunate that a kid was denied the polio vaccine at the vaccination centre on the eve of polo immunization programme. Neelam and her four-month old girl child Gungun had gone to the vaccination centre at Rajkiya Mahila Prasuti Griha in Dhelwariya area as per the schedule in their card for polio vaccination on Saturday. But, the staff present in the hospital denied to attend them stating that there is no vaccine.
"They are saying to come after one month, though we were told to come on June 15. We are not sure whether skipping this schedule will affect my child," said Neelam.
The vaccination centre, which runs in the maternity hospital, is also the regional depot of the vaccine. The mother decided to get help from Indian Medical Association (IMA).
Chief medical officer MP Chaurasia said that there is no dearth of medicines and vaccine in the district. "We will see this matter soon. Strict action will be taken against the staff members who denied to attend the girl," he said.
