About 35% of the targeted 10 lakh children up to five years of age
were administered polio drops on the first day of the Pulse polio
campaign launched in the district here on Sunday.
Dr. Ashutosh Kumar, district immunisation officer (DIO) told TOI that a total of 3,464 polio booths, including 2,642 in rural and 822 in urban area, were set up to administer polio drops to children up to five years of age. He added that 1,798 mobile teams-1,311 in rural and 484 in urban areas-have been constituted to conduct door to door campaign.
Dr Kumar informed a total of 10,392 immunisation workers were assigned duties for the six days long pulse polio campaign. After the first day on Sunday, the door-to-door polio drive will continue from April 8 to 12 in all 20 blocks and city areas. A total of 144 transit and mobile teams were formed and duties were also assigned to 2,640 ASHAs and 1,395 Aganwari workers to make the programme successful. This time, efforts are being made to cover each and every child under the campaign. Mobile health teams have been advised to cover at least 100 houses per day to cover children who missed the dose.
Apart from schools in localities, polio booths were set up at bus stops, railway stations, and other public places as well.
