The Federation of Tamil Nadu Physically Handicapped Associations called off their two-day stir on Thursday after railway officials accepted their demands. About hundred differently abled people had been camping outside the office of the general manager of Southern Railway here since Wednesday to protest against encroachment of facilities meant for them.
They wrote to the general manager demanding strict action against those who encroached on parking spaces meant for them.
They stated that compartments meant for them were often used by
couriers companies and the general public also occupied them. "Strict
action should be taken against such offenders under the Indian Railways Act, 1989 and Amended Act 2003," read the letter by the Federation of Tamil Nadu Physically Handicapped Associations.
The stir was called off after senior officials of Southern Railway and Railway Police Force promised strict action.
