Physically challenged, visual and hearing impaired
persons can excel in any field on par with normal persons if they forged
ahead with confidence and determination, Additional Joint Collector M.
Sudarshan Reddy said on Wednesday.
Speaking after
inaugurating sports competitions for physically challenged, visual and
hearing impaired persons at the municipal grounds here, Mr. Reddy said
they have the capabilities to succeed in any field provided an
opportunity. District-level sports competitions would be conducted for
the physically-challenged on International Day of Persons with
Disabilities on December 3 and winners in it would get a chance to take
part in State-level competitions, he said.
The government was implementing schemes for encouraging physically challenged and started a junior college for hearing impaired in Kadapa, which was among the three sanctioned in the State. The junior college strength increased from 25 students last year to 85 this year, the Additional Joint Collector said. District Collector K. Sasidhar sanctioned Rs. 4.50 lakh from Backward and Remote Areas Growth Fund (BRGF) for constructing a hostel for the students.
Another hostel building was sanctioned with Rs. 10 lakhs and proposals were forwarded to secure funds of Rs. 25 lakhs.
