Mela for disabled : Manipur

For the first time in Manipur, five organizations namely Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Life Line Trust Centre, Handicapped Welfare Society, Leima Leiteng Tera Lukram Leirak and Chaokhat Khongthang SHG for Handicapped Persons will be organizing a three-day long winter mela for Differently Able Persons from December 3-5 at the ground of Tera Primary School.


The mela has been planned to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities to be observed under the theme of 'Break Barriers, Open Doors for an Inclusive Society for All' .


Speaking to media persons in this regard, Ch Opendro, president of Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons informed that the mela will provide opportunity to disabled persons to showcase their hand-made products to the visitors and earn a livelihood.


The fooding and lodging fees will not be charged from the participating disabled persons and they could take part in the mela free of cost.


He pointed out that there are many disabled persons in the State who could make fine handicrafts products like any other normal person.


So, if such melas are organised regularly then disabled persons could contribute their mite considerably towards augmenting the economy of the State.
