Government Must Ensure Jobs for all 12 Lakh Differently-abled in Karnataka: Ananth Kumar

BJP leader Ananth Kumar said he will soon raise the issue of reservations to emancipate differently-abled people in employment sectors in the State with the government. Kumar plans to put this forward at the winter session of the Lok Sabha.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Walkathon 2013 and ASB National Cricket Tournament for the Blind organised here on Saturday by the Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. He said he will urge the government to bring in special privileges for people with disabilities.
“We have over 12 lakh differently-abled people in the State, but only 6 lakh of them are employed. The government has to ensure that all of them are given opportunities in government offices and public sector units,” he said. He further said he will speak to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the implementation of 3 per cent reservation in jobs available in the State for the differently-abled.

More than 7,000 people including differently-abled participants, volunteers and a host of celebrities came together for the event. A total of eight teams from eight States in the country including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal participated after qualifying in the tournament.

A team of blind cricketers from India will soon take off to participate in a cricket tournament to be held in three cities in Pakistan, said John David, treasurer, Cricket Association for the Blind in India. “After the league matches and finals conclude on December 11, a 14- member visually impaired squad will be sent for the Indo-Pak series to be held in Pakistan in February. This will be followed by the 4th One Day International World Cup in South Africa in November 2014,” he said.
