Rural Police have invoked the Protection of Children from
Sexual Offences Act, 2012 to arrest school principal Vasant Gite in
connection with the rape of two physically challenged students by a
school peon at Apang Kalyan Kendra in Narayangaon.
“He tried
to brush the issue under the carpet and therefore we made him an accused
in the case. Gite had even noted down the details of the rape-related
complaints in a paper but failed to inform the police or the
administration. This is a very serious offence,” Rural SP Manoj Kumar
Lohia told Sakal Times.
The rural police had arrested school
peon Mahadev Borhade on Wednesday, on charges of raping two physically
challenged girls. The police are now trying to find if any more girls
were molested or raped.
“We are in the process of recording
the statements of the girls. It is mandatory for anyone knowing about
sexual assault on minors to inform police at the earliest,” Lohia said.
Borhade had allegedly sexually assaulted the two girls last week.
The
school which is located in a small hamlet called Ane in Junnar taluka
of the district has a total of 57 girl students and 123 boys who are
mostly from poor families.
