Differently abled motorists at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday to submit a petition.

Differently abled motorists who use specially-modified vehicles have
appealed to the district administration to initiate measures for speedy
issuance of licence and vehicle clearance.
In a petition submitted to District Collector M. Karunagaran during the
public grievances redress meeting at the Coimbatore Collectorate on
Monday, members of Caliber Trust for Differently Abled said that there
was a delay in Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in giving licences and
clearing modified vehicles for the differently abled.
Water diversion
A group of residents in Vellalore have urged the district administration
to prevent the Vellalore Town Panchayat from executing a project to
divert water flowing through a channel passing through
Kanchikonampalayam to the Vellalore Tank.
In a petition submitted to District Collector on Monday, the residents
said that the channel used to have water only once a year during the
heavy rain. The Vellalore Tank was situated at a higher level than the
channel. The residents termed the diversion project as a waste of
taxpayers’ money.
Man-animal conflict
K. Arumugham, MLA, has urged the district administration to take
immediate measures to reduce man-animal conflict in Valparai. In a
petition submitted to District Collector he said ‘kumkis’ should be
deployed on a permanent basis at Valparai. Powerful high-mast lights
should be installed. He said that wage of workers in Government tea
estates should be increased from the present Rs. 191 a day to Rs. 204 to
bring them on par with workers in private estates.
Temple land
The Indu Makkal Katchi (Tamil Nadu) has urged the district
administration to conduct an archaeological study of the land in front
of Koniamman Temple on Big Bazaar Street to ascertain if there existed a
‘teppakulam’ (temple tank) there. In a petition submitted to District
Collector, the association general secretary T.C. Senthil Kumar said
that temple records showed that a tank was in use till 1902.
Students protest
Students of a private college located in Malumichampatti have sought the
intervention of the district administration to reinstate the principal
who was removed from service last week.
In a petition submitted to District Collector, the students said that
the teachers were demoralised by the removal of the principal.
The police stopped the 100-odd students who came to the Collectorate when they tried to enter the Collectorate premises.
