30 booths on UP-Nepal border checking spread of polio virus

The threat of cross-border transmission of polio still exists and hence Lucknow is taking every precaution to check such transmission, Lucknow's minister of state for health and family welfare Shankhlal Majhi said.
Majhi was addressing a function at the Islamic Centre of India on Sunday.

He added that across the UP-Nepal border 30 polio booths are running round the year to check transmission of the virus. “Uttar Pradesh is close to eradication of polio. To ensure complete elimination of the virus the vaccination programmes will however run continuously across the state at the district-level,” the minister said. He added the vaccination programme is being closely monitored to eliminate all shortcomings.
It may be mentioned that 3.4 lakh kids will be administered polio drops under the campaign. On the first day of the campaign children were administered polio drops at 1,09,769 booths and over the week a door-to-door campaign will be initiated by volunteers.
