Union minister for social
justice and empowerment Kumari Selja said the Centre would shortly table
the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill in Parliament. Once
Parliament passes the bill, it would benefit crores of citizens
suffering from various physical and mental disabilities, said the
minister.
Selja was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Composite Regional Centre for Persons with Disabilities at Vellimadukunnu social welfare complex here on Saturday.
The government has already sent the draft of the bill to all state governments for their feedback, said the minister adding that efforts would be taken to pass the bill at the earliest. According to official records with the government, the number of differently-abled persons in the country is very less compared to international statistics, the minister said.
