We have been awarded the highest Grade “A” once again by National
Assessment and Accreditation Council from out of the re-accreditation
process in 2012. We have taken interest in social programmes like WISH
Forum (Women Involved in Sanitation and Hygiene) in association with
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and a Digitalised Manual (CD) on
“Policies and Programmes for the Differently Abled”. We have also
proposed other programmes for the differently-abled, this academic year.
A number of buildings such as multi-purpose auditorium, library with
common seminar hall for various departments, indoor stadium,
seminar-cum-students facility centre and building for school of
excellence in life science are coming up in Palkalaiperur campus.
College building for Bharathidasan University Constituent College at
Srirangam and a building for Centre for Differently Abled Persons at
Khajamalai campus are also in the offing. For the use of electricity we
are planning to generate non-conventional energy in the campus and
upscaling of the Centre for Remote Sensing are planned. We are planning
to introduce five MSc programmes, an MTech programme, two PG diploma
courses and few other diploma courses that will come under Centre for
Differently Abled Persons. We are focused in taking the university from
the present status to “University with Potential for Excellence”.
New courses, upgrading of infrastructure, MoUs and community service are on the to-do-list of our Tamil Nadu universities.
MGR University, Chennai
In
addition to our BArch course, this year we are introducing MArch
sanctioned by the Council of architecture. MS in nursing is another
course approved by the Nursing council. PhD in biotechnology is another
popular course in our institution. A tie-up with Microsoft is likely to
take place for the programme, edvantage — it aims to promote research
and placement opportunities for our students. Apart from the engineering
departments we have an English department that aims at improving the
soft skills and communication skills of the students. There are students
from all over India and we promise to remove the language barriers.
Each department is progressing in its own way and we stand as a strong
pillar of support for the student community.
Mount Zion Group of Institutions Pudukottai
In
addition to three PG courses introduced last year, a new course, ME
Computer aided Design and Computer aided Manufacturing will be
introduced. Students will be experiencing Aakash tablet-based learning
in classrooms having got the approval of Nation Mission on Education
through Information and Communication Technology. On a social note, we
have adopted few village schools and with the help of information
technology, conduct classes for children. We are planning to adopt more
schools this year as well. We would also be applying for accreditation
this year.
Study Viscom at Bridge Academy, Chennai
Students
who have completed their 10 or + 2 and having some skills in creativity
can apply to Bridge academy’s visual communication course. Creative
skills of students would be used effectively to teach them various
nuances of visual communication. It’s a creative course and as such
there is not much emphasis on academic marks for entry. Trained
professionals coach in a practical way, which will help to unleash the
student’s talents in drawing graphic designing in a best way. Drawing,
graphic design, computer graphics and advertising are subjects taught.
If students are interested in TV or video production and no-linear
editing, there are opportunities to specialise in the same. This course
will also open opportunities in advertising, journalism and mass
communication. Bridge Academy prepares for a prosperous career in
communication. Students would be offered a diploma from Periyar
University, once they complete this course. The admission criteria is

Hindustan University, Chennai
Last
year, new buildings such as the Dr KCG Verghese Research and Resource
Centre, the Jubilee Block and the Amenities Block were constructed.
State-of-the-art auditoriums, lecture theatres, classrooms and
laboratories also adds on to our plans. These new buildings cater not
only to the academic growth but also to the extended research activities
that take place within the campus. The Amenities Block provides basic
amenities such as banking, staff quarters, super market, books and
stationery to the academic fraternity of the institution.
We are
also planning to construct an international hostel. The university will
also focus on the promotion of research and publication in innovative
areas. The Centers of Excellence are being established for this purpose.
The Centres include, TIFAC-CORE Centre of Excellence in Aircraft
Maintenance, Centre for Clean Energy and Nano Convergence, LIDAR, Centre
for Defence Technology Studies. These centres focus mainly on research
activities. We are planning to introduce four BTech and MTech courses,
one MBA and diploma course. We also have tie-ups with eight foreign
institutions and few Indian institutions that focus mainly on the
exchange of students and staff for the purpose of academic, training and
research activities.
Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai
We
have initiated a Green Campus Programme which aims to reduce the
environmental impact of the large residential campus. The main focus
will be on the generation of solar power to meet our requirements,
energy audit, solid waste management, renewable energy installations and
also to introduce solar street lights. A Virtual Learning Centre will
be established to have a single point access to national and
international journals, digital teaching resources and career
assistance. Also a Centre for Nano Sciences is set up to coordinate the
ongoing research activities. Around 107 new innovative
UG/PG/certificate/diploma courses will be introduced in the Directorate
of Distance Education of Madurai Kamaraj University from the next
academic year.
Design courses at Raffles Millennium, Chennai
In
addition to courses like fashion design, product design, interior
design, multimedia design and visual communication, Raffles aims to
introduce programmes in business management, tourism and hospitality
management in the time to come. With articulation agreements between
reputable overseas universities in the United Kingdom and Australia,
students are conferred with internationally accredited design
qualifications at the end of their studies. The Centre of Professional
