Assam to train 300 differently-abled youths

In the year 2013, Assam will impart skill development training to at least 300 differently-abled youth so as to enable them to take up vocational works or jobs.
Pradyut Bordoloi, Assam's power and industry minister, made this announcement while attending a 'aids and appliances distribution ceremony' in Guwahati, organised by Rural Electrification Corporation (REC). Bordoloi said the skill-development training would be imparted to differently-abled youth within the age group of 17 to 30. "Our objective is to train them so that they would be able to face the challenges of life and stand on their own feet. This will surely go a long way in boosting their self-confidence and making them self-reliant." said Bordoloi.

Bordoloi said his industry department has undertaken 'Resource Mapping' survey which has identified 50 areas of demand-driven training programmes. So far, said the minister, the industry department has trained more than 5,000 rural educated unemployed youths.
