The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Physically Handicapped Persons Association has demanded the State government to ensure the implementation of five per cent reservation for physically challenged persons in the recruitment of government jobs here on Sunday.
The association place this demand before the government during its 20 thannual convention at Ravindra Kalabhavan in University College.
During the programme the association submitted a memorandum to MLA U T Khader and MLC Ganesh Karnik.
Later
addressing the gathering, Gopalakrishna Prabhu, chief advisor of the
association said that though the State government has facilitated five
per cent reservation for physically challenged persons in government
jobs, it is not implemented effectively.
"Most of the times, physically challenged people are not aware of the provisions due to lack of publicity and hence the reservation seats are filled by other candidates. In one of the cases recently, reservation seats were not filled for the posts of PDOs and the provision was overlooked by the authorities. The Association had to approach the Court to fight for the justice. We cannot afford to approach the court every time fighting for our rights," he said.
