Kashmir University holds marathon for special athletes

Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad today flagged off a one kilometre marathon for differently-abled special athletes gathered from special schools and various departments of the Kashmir University from Zainul Abideen Gate Naseem to Ghandi Bhawan University campus.

 

 The Marathon organized by department of student welfare was held in collaboration with Cause NGO with support from space communications, Text Kashmir and TCI Max.

 Registrar Kashmir University Prof Zafar A Reshi , Deputy commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah Dean Students Prof Nilofar Khan members from civil society students scholars of the university of Kashmir were present besides students scholars of the university of Kashmir.
 
 The event which culminated at Ghandi Bhawan was followed by a colourful cultural event from differently abed and distribution of cheques worth Rs 10 lac among the differently abled student studying at various departments of the Kashmir University. The amount was contributed by the department of social welfare Govt of J&K for the welfare of differently abled students presently studying at KU.
 
 Speaking at the concluding event of the marathon at Ghandi Bhawan Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad was all appreciative of the differently abled students for their participation in the Marathon.
 He assured them of all assistance and support for their bright future “ please don’t feel lonely at any point of time “, we and all concerned people are with you and understand your problems “ said VC assuring his support to them. VC assured for creating disability friendly environs in Kashmir university.
 
 Registrar Kashmir University Prof Zafar Ahmad Reshi who was the guest of honour on the occasion said that he was extremely thrilled to be a part of the Marathon and drew satisfaction from being on the side of the participants .
 
 Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah who was also the guest of honour on the occasion said that events like these are important to ignite in us a sense of responsibility and duty towards our children and students with special needs. DC was all praise for some NGOs present on the occasion ‘the way they 
have been able to promote such causes.
 
 Dean students welfare Prof Nilofar Khan in her welcome address thanked the collaborators for making this event a success and announced that the department of DSW will hold a series of such events on social themes this academic year.
 
 Assistant dean students welfare Showkat shafi presented vote of thanks . Zubair Ahmad Mir cause president, Amit Wancho chairperson space communications, Umar Trumboo from TCI Max were present.
