Bid to eliminate political pressure
In a bid to eliminate unwanted interference and political pressures, the state government has now decided to issue Aadhaar-linked identity card to all physically-challenged people in the state, this was stated by Minister for Public Health Suresh Shetty in the Legislative Council, yesterday. He said while replying to supplementary queries raised by Vidya Chavan (NCP) and others during question hour.
The minister stated that, the Health department has installed software at 41 places at district, sub-district hospitals and All India Physical Disabilities, Mumbai for evaluating and issuing certificates to physically-challenged people. Shetty disclosed that the software being used in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra has 140 questions and the doctor’s key in the data and the computer decides on the degree of disability of the person and issues certificate accordingly.
Shetty added that, the committee headed by a civil surgeon supervises the entire process. He said that, people who did not have any disabilities were applying for the certificates. The minister informed that, so far 11,132 people had applied for the certificate, 6,101 certificates were issued and 1,060 applications were rejected.
He added that, the Government Resolution issued on August 6, 2012 lays down the categories of disabilities for which the certificate can be issued. As of now the government is giving training to 256 officers at Thane and Pune for operating the software and issuance of certificates.
