It may sound strange but the new technology is such that it will allow deaf people to see words spoken from the other end of the line. The phones have been specially designed for the purpose and they will come with attached screens.
The phones have been made in such a way that they will allow deaf people to see words, tones, pauses and laughter. So there is nothing on which these people have to compromise on. It seems that the new technology is going to open a new world for hearing-impaired.
New Zealand is not the first country which has introduced the service named as the CapTel Service as it has already been running in the US. The service requires broadband as well as voicemail system.
"This means that, for the first time, a hearing-impaired person will be able to take part in a telephone conversation at almost the same speed as ordinary conversations", said officials. Louise Carroll, chief executive of National Foundation for the Deaf, said that it was very important to come with such a service.
