Thailand to improve subway stations accessibility for persons with disabilities

The Thailand Ministry of Transport is piloting a project aimed at improving accessibility for persons with disabilities, by making adjustments to the facilities at subway stations in Bangkok.
Transport Minister Chatchart Sitthipan said the Blue Line subway route (Hua Lamphong – Bangsue) is starting to undergo improvements, both within the stations and on the trains. Wheelchair lanes will be provided at the service counters. Toilets for persons with disabilities will be built, and parking spots for wheelchairs will be established. The 9-story car park building at Ladphrao Station will be improved to allow easier access by persons with disabilities.
Persons with disabilities receive fare exemption when using the subway trains. Around 400 persons with disabilities utilize the subway each day; 70% are those with hearing disability.
Mr. Chatchart said the Ministry of Transport will also pilot a project to boost accessibility for persons with disabilities at Don Mueang Airport in the future.
