SSLC results: They prove they’re no less , Bangalore

Monday was indeed a special day for these students. Hard work paid rich dividends to 59 visually challenged and hearing impaired students studying in special schools in Mysore.

All visually challenged students and five students from the Government School for Deaf scored over 60% in the SSLC exam. Department of women and children development deputy director N Vijay said about 10 students each from the Mercy Convent for Deaf Girls and Puttaveeramma Deaf Girls School, 24 students of the Government School for Deaf, seven from Sai Ranga School for Deaf and eight from the Government School for Blind appeared for the exam in 2012-13 , of which all 59 have passed.

"We are happy that the special children are showing interest in studies and unlike in the previous year, this year we've got 100 per cent results," he added. This apart, eight of nine inmates of the government-run Girls' Home also passed the exam.

THEY FINALLY SEE LIGHT

Armed with perseverance, all the seven visually challenged students of the Government School for the Blind in Mysore passed the SSLC examinations with flying colours. Yogesh S from Periyapatna, who scored 444 marks, says: "We studied for almost eight hours in a day. Our day began at 4am. After studying for four hours, we would go to school. After school hours, we would either play or take part in extra-curricular activities and again study till midnight."

Another student, Chendra, wants to be a lecturer. He has met many visually challenged people who have become lecturers and wants to be like them. "I want to do masters in Arts and get into the teaching field," says Chendra, who scored 443 marks.

Lokesh scored 444 marks, Nanjunda J (445), Siddegowda (428) and Sunil N (448). All of them scored more than 88 in Mathematics .
