For the comprehensive development of society, the marginalised
sections should be brought to the mainstream, Panchayat and Social
Welfare Minister M K Muneer has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the medical camp for the handicapped organised by the Kerala State Handicapped Persons Welfare Corporation at Kalladi Higher Secondary School here on Monday.
“A small helping hand will transform the lives of the marginalised sections. The government is aware that building of roads, bridges and complexes alone did not mean development. It is in this context that the government has coined the slogan ‘Development and Care’,” he said.
Muneer said that around 200 people could be brought to the mainstream through cochlear implantation. In five years, it is proposed to bring 1,000 differently-abled people to the mainstream. One mechanised cycle will be distributed for such people in every constituency of the state. It will be increased to three cycles later.
In future, cycles which could be operated with joysticks will also be distributed, the minister added.
Advocate N Shamsudheen MLA presided over the meet. K V Vijayadas MLA, corporation managing director A K Shaji, Block panchayat president Rafeeq Parakkottil, vice-president Ahmed Ashraf, presidents of the panchayats Rafeeq Kunthipuzha, Sugunakumari, K Mohammed Ali Master and Shahina spoke.
